WHO Concerned over Skin Disease, which Killed 19, Mostly Children

With 19 dead and over 170 people have  reported symptoms of this mysterious Vietnam disease, the World Health Organisation is “concerned” about the outbreak. Symptoms include, stiffness in the limbs and severe rashes on the hands and feet that look like burns. They are unaware of the cause, but are continuing to search for answers. “The results of the investigation (are) not yet available. Therefore, we don’t know anything more concerning the disease,” said doctor Dang Thi Phuong, director of Ba To district healthcare centre. “As far as I know, the Ministry intends to invite foreign experts to the area to help us know more,” she told AFP. Most of the victims reported, have been under 10 years old. Most of the outbreaks have been reported in the Quang Ngai Province and the disease is possibly caused from chemicals, though they are unsure. “Nearly 100 people are currently in hospital, being treated for this mystery disease – ten of them are described as “critical”. Hospitals inform that those with milder signs and symptoms can be treated at home.” 29 patients who were treated, have now been reported ill again.

Mysterious Skin Disease Kills 19, Vietnam Seeking Help

Quang Ngai: Vietnam is seeking international help, after 19 dead and over 170 people have reported symptoms of a skin infection. The symptoms start out as a skin rash on the hands and feet, leads to liver problems, and then results in multiple organ failure. Vietnamese health officials haven’t found the cause of the deadly disease. BBC News reported: “‘This disease is challenging as we have not identified the root causes. If it is just an external skin disease why is it causing deaths and failures inside internal organs?’ Deputy Health Minister Thanh Long said on Friday.” For more information, visit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-17799053
