Not a Good Outlook for Basement Search

Today the search of Othniel Miller’s basement is winding down into completion. The basement that once had been Miller’s workshop was on the way to Etan’s bus stop. Cadaver dogs had smelled human remains, which led to the search unit breaking up the cement in the basement. All that was found was a possible blood stained cylinder block, which is usually inconclusive, and some human hair that was not blonde.  Miller has been cooperating with the investigation for 30 years, and his attorney is upset with all of the negative press. He added, “Just as we recently witnessed in the Treyvon Martin case, people with access to unconfirmed information about the Etan Patz investigation have leaked those secrets to the news media for their own inappropriate purposes. Random bits of uncorroborated information and supposition, the types of which law enforcement hopes will lead to actual competent evidence, serve no purpose in the public domain other than to skew public opinion and malign unfortunate individuals who cannot effectively respond.” Miller isn’t considered a suspect. The main suspect in the case is Patz’s once babysitter’s boyfriend, Jose Ramos, who is currently serving 20 years in prison for an unrelated molestation charge, in Pennsylvania. Ramos is due to be released from prison in November. As of 2 years ago, Etan’s parents had not changed their phone number or moved just in case he ever needed them. “‘We didn’t know what had happened to him, so, of course, the thought in the backs of our minds was always that we should be here for him,’ father Stanley Patz said on ’20/20′.”
