A new trend is forming, while 6 teens were taken to a California hospital after reportedly drinking hand sanitizer. “Dr. Bill Mallon, who works in the emergency room at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, told KTLA he had seen too many young people come into the hospital with alcohol poisoning after drinking hand sanitizer.” Teenagers lack having on-hand alcohol, so they often turn to other means to get drunk. “Sanitizer is 62 percent ethyl alcohol and 120-proof after distillation.” So, parents be aware of this and cough syrup, vanilla extract, and mouthwash.

In Pittsburgh, a paid guard of an armor truck carrying more than $2 million robbed the truck and killed his partner in the process. U.S. Attorney David Hickton of Pittsburgh informed The Associated Press that 22-year-old Kenneth Konias Jr. was arrested in Pompano Beach, Florida and is being held by the FBI. Konias’ parents, Kenneth Sr. and Renee, had made a public plea on March 21st for him to surrender. “I can tell you that the parents are both relieved that he’s now in custody, that the search is over for him, and they want the wheels of justice to turn fairly,” Konias’ attorney, Charles LoPresti said, “they’re very relieved that nobody, including their own son, is in danger now that the search is done.” On February 28th, Konias shot Garda Cash Logistics guard Michael Haines then fled with the money. He was later reported contacting friends and asking about the extradition laws in both Mexico and Canada. The nearly $2.3 million stolen was untraceable, but so far around $275,000 have been recovered.

For the first time in four decades illegal immigration into the United States had declined. Some experts are saying that lower birthrates and other factors could leave make this a permanent trend. “’I think the massive boom in Mexican immigration is over and I don’t think it will ever return to the numbers we saw in the 1990s and 2000s,’ said Douglas Massey, a professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University and co-director of the Mexican Migration Project, which has been gathering data on the subject for 30 years.” Close to 1.4 million Mexicans left the US between 2005 and 2010, while the number of illegal immigrants coming to America dropped during that same period. It is believed that this could change the political game between both Democratic and Republican parties. “The reversal appears to be a result of tightened border controls, a weak U.S. job and housing construction market, a rise in deportations and a decline in Mexican birthrates, said the study, which used U.S. and Mexican census figures and Mexican government surveys. Arrests of illegal immigrants trying to enter the United States have also dropped precipitously in recent years.”

A 12 year-old boy, Isaac Arzate, from Oregon, collapsed on a baseball field, just 3 months after surviving a heart attack while playing basketball. “Marion County Deputy Medical Examiner Rodge Womack confirmed Monday that the Salem boy died later at a hospital.” Isaac survived his first collapse with the help of his coaches, who performed CPR while calling and waiting for the paramedics. A few days later he had surgery to repair a heart defect.

June 22, 2011 was the day after Ryder’s first birthday. He had just turned into a big, beautiful one-year-old. Though, this day was no ordinary day, this was the day that Ryder was taken away from his family. Ryder’s mother, Tawney Johnson, had come home during lunch to visit her brave little boy. Tawney returned to work at noon, and by 12:14pm, the nanny had called 911, stating Ryder was holding his toy and had fallen backward, and that his eyes were rolling back in his head. A CT from the emergency room showed bleeding at the front left portion of Ryder’s brain. The nanny later changed her story to her being in the kitchen where she heard a big thud. “Kelli Anne Jacobsen, 27, of Richland, was charged Thursday with first-degree manslaughter for recklessly causing Ryder’s death by inflicting abusive head trauma to the boy.” “Dr. Kenneth Feldman, said the brain bleed that Ryder suffered normally is caused from severe whiplash events that also can cause neck muscle and spinal cord bleeding, documents said. Tawney and her friends have been devastated ever since. For now, Tawney has been medically unable to work and has since then started a “Justice For Ryder Foundation”. They are selling bracelets and key chains to help support her through this time she needs to grieve.

In January 2007, a Pennsylvania family had been battling their son, Caleb’s, ear infection and an ongoing cold. One morning he woke up stiff, with glazed eyes. His parents took him to the emergency room where they found a brain tumor. Caleb was sent to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, CHOP, where he stayed for 5 days in a coma. The family was constantly surrounded by supporters, around 30 people at all times to give their support. On the fifth day, Caleb passed away, leaving his Mother, Nicole Mitschele devastated. During the stay at CHOP, she had noticed that a lot of children went weeks without visitations from friends and family. “‘A lot of kids on the same floor—in fact, a little boy in the next room—had been in the hospital for more than a year and hadn’t had a visitor in 2 or 3 weeks,’ Mitschele said. ‘Lots of the kids had siblings [outside of the hospital] or the parents had to keep working, so they had to take care of other responsibilities.’” Determined, Mitschele started a foundation to help sick children of all ages, undergoing long-term hospital treatment. She called the foundation “Pennies from Heaven” and has helped around 128 families since May 2010. “’We’ve paid numerous mortgage payments, or electric, gas, oil or other utility bills,’ Mitschele said. ‘We’ve even paid for bus tickets for families to get to the hospital. We’ve gotten stacks and stacks of applications—I keep every single one.’” They have fundraisers and rallies to help raise the money. Donations are taken at: http://www.calebspennies.org/

A young woman gets her first job at Burger King, like many do. Except she ends up getting harassed by her older, married manager. He reportedly “followed her around, touched her, asked her about her virginity, told her to have sex with him and other male employees, and asked how much that would cost.” The settlement came to a whopping $150,000. The Burger King franchise has had many other high-paying settlements for sexual harassment cases. At a Burger King in Clemmons, N.C., 5 years ago, Kathleen Joyner, then 18, “suffered unwelcome touching, sexual advances, and requests for sexual favors from her general manager.” The assistant managers ignored her complaints and she ended up winning a $85,000 lawsuit. In 2004, “a Burger King franchise paid out $400,000 to seven teens who had worked at one of its fast food outlets in a St. Louis suburb. After allegedly enduring groping and demands for sex for weeks, the female employees complained to assistant managers, as well as the district manager, but they shrugged it off.” This is not uncommon in fast food franchises. The real problem is that managers and people with the power to help, DO NOTHING. They shrug it off like it’s a splinter. “‘I just thought that was how the real world was,’ said one 16-year-old, after other managers dismissed her complaints that another supervisor was stroking her when they were alone, describing his sex life in graphic detail, and showing her pornography.” Luckily, there is help and people who care out there. The EEOC has a website to inform you of your rights. If you are being harassed or abused at work, do something about it. Know your rights. This is an e-mail I received this morning, and I felt the need to pass it around. It is scary that something that seems so inconspicuous, could be full of such malice. So here it is, unchanged:
This is an actual email from the POLICE
Police Warning (Send to Everyone)
Pass this to friends and daughters! snopes verified. scary stuff.
People are R E A L L Y crazy! If you are a female, take heed! If you are male and have a significant female in your life who you care about, whether it’s your wife, your girlfriend, your daughter, your sister, your niece, your cousin, your next door neighbor; whomever…………..pass this along! Always,
“Better safe than sorry!”
A man came over and offered his services as a painter to a female putting gas in her car and left his card. She said no, but accepted his card out of courtesy and got in her car. The man then got into a car driven by another gentleman.
As the lady left the service station, she saw the men following her out of the station at the same time. Almost immediately, she started to feel dizzy and could not catch her breath.
She tried to open the window and realized that the odor was on her hand; the same hand which
accepted the card from the gentleman at the gas station.
She then noticed the men were immediately behind her and she felt she needed to do something at that moment.
She drove into the first driveway and began to honk her horn repeatedly to ask for help. The men drove away but the lady still felt pretty bad for several minutes after she could finally catch her breath.
Apparently, there was a substance on the card that could have seriously injured her.
This drug is called ‘BURUNDANGA’ and it is used by people who wish to incapacitate a victim in order to steal from or take advantage of them.
This drug is four times more dangerous than the date rape drug and is transferable on simple cards. So take heed and make sure you don’t accept cards at any given time you are alone or from someone on the streets. This applies to those making house calls and slipping you a card when they offer their services’
Many people are reading the Snopes review stating that this is incorrect. Of course, I cannot say whether this is 100% true or false, but being a parent I am keeping my guard up. It’s better to be safe than sorry. Like I’ve been saying, you never know what people are capable of.

Caine Monroy has always had a passion for arcades. He used to take apart his toys just to see how they work. Recently, he put together an arcade made out of cardboard. He is charging people $2 to play, in hopes of saving money for college. I bet he never imagined his success. A man, named Nirvan Mullick, walked by the cardboard arcade and was so touched by this boy’s dream that he made a documentary of him. The video has had over 3.5 million views, and has helped Caine to earn over $180,000 towards college funds. On Caine’s website, it states, “As seed funding for the “Caine’s Arcade Foundation,” the Goldhirsh Foundation has generously pledged a $250,000 dollar-for-dollar matching donation: for every $1 donated by the public to “Caine’s Scholarship Fund,” the Goldhirsh Foundation will donate $1 toward establishing the Caine’s Arcade Foundation to support other amazing kids!” Caine even had the opportunity to meet with one of NASA’s top rocket scientists. What an amazing story of a truly inspirational boy.
